Technical Assistance to Brownfields (TAB)

EPA's Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities (TAB) program provides free technical assistance to communities, especially those in underserved, rural, small and otherwise distressed, communities to increase their understanding and involvement in brownfields cleanup, revitalization and reuse. The TAB program is funded by EPA and available to all stakeholders. The Kansas City University (KSU) TAB program provides this assistance to Region 6.

Application Resources

After the application package has been reviewed and found eligible, reporting requirements must be adhered to through the life of the grant. EPA solicits proposals for Brownfields assessment, cleanup and revolving loan fund grants annually, generally in the fall. Please refer to the Proposal Guidelines for how to apply.

Stories from Around the Region

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Formerly a motel with a classic tourist motor court on Route 66, Luna Lodge is now providing low income housing. This rehabilitation project resulted in 30 apartments and achieved LEED Platinum certification for its energy efficiency. The New Mexico Environment Department provided a sub-grant from its EPA Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund to address asbestos cleanup as part of the renovation.

Bastrop, Texas

The Bastrop Fine Arts Guild needed assistance with its plans to turn the former Powell Cotton Seed Mill site into the Lost Pines Art Complex. The Region 6 Targeted Brownfields Assessment Program provided a Phase II ESA which identified contaminants requiring remediation and a Phase II Supplement ESA which allowed the Texas Committee on Environmental Quality to issue a Certificate of Completion for the cleanup. The Guild has begun redevelopment which will include 4,000 square feet of gallery space, artist studios, classrooms and specialty shops. The site will also feature an outdoor sculpture garden, Xeriscape landscaping with a rainwater collection system, outdoor water feature, and patio.
