Where were you born?
Jacksonville, North Carolina.
What brought you to EPA?
I was able to intern with the EPA at Research Triangle Park, NC while in graduate school at North Carolina Central University. Towards the end of my internship, I was encouraged to apply for a permanent position with the Agency and was hired. As they say, the rest is history!
What type of work do you do at EPA?
As the Deputy Director, I’m responsible for overseeing the Office of Civil Rights’ national priority work as part of our affirmative employment efforts. I’m also responsible managing the operational and administrative functions of the office to include the budget and personnel.
What is your highest level of education? What was your major?
I have a master’s degree in history from North Carolina Central University. Go Eagles!
What message would you like to send other Black/African Americans who are considering college or a career in environmental protection?
Go for it! The importance of diversity within the environmental movement cannot be overstated.
