Chemical Data Reporting

Chemical Data Reporting Byproducts, Impurities, and Recycling Scenarios

This document provides information on Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) rule requirements and exemptions associated with byproducts, impurities, and recycling.

The version dated 2020 addresses the application of new byproduct exemptions established by the CDR Revisions rulemaking and provides additional explanations that are helpful for reporters under the CDR rule.  The version dated 2012, used during the 2016 and 2012 CDR reporting periods, is retained for historical purposes.

The primary goal of this document is to help the regulated community comply with the requirements of the CDR rule. This document does not substitute for that rule, nor is it a rule itself. It does not impose legally binding requirements on the regulated community or on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
