About Us - CMAQ
The CMAQ modeling system is a collaborative, open-source project developed by researchers at EPA, who incorporate input from a large, world-wide user community. The first version of CMAQ was released in 1998. Since then, CMAQ has been used to evaluate potential air quality policy management decisions. The model provides reliable information for decision makers about the estimated impacts of different air quality policies.
Who We Are
The CMAQ team is part of the Center for Environmental Measurement and Modeling (CEMM) within EPA's Office of Research and Development. Our team comes from all over the world, with members representing nine different countries in North America, Europe, and Asia. We have diverse educational backgrounds, with degrees in atmospheric science, chemical and environmental engineering, meteorology, geology, computer science and statistics.
What We Do
The CMAQ development team's mission is to protect human health and the environment by providing communities, states and countries with robust tools to characterize and predict the atmospheric fate of air pollutants under varying conditions. To achieve this, we continually refine and update the modeling system as new relevant scientific discoveries emerge or user feedback identifies unmet needs.
