Guidance: Preparing Waste-in Lists and Volumetric Rankings for Release to PRPs ("Waste-in" Guidance)

Waste-in guidance provides information on the compilation and release of waste-in lists and volumetric rankings to help Regions comply with the information release requirements in section 122(e) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, commonly referred to as Superfund). Issued 2/22/1991.

If EPA invokes special notice procedures under CERCLA section 122(e) (1), the Agency must provide potentially responsible parties (PRPs) with the names and addresses of all PRPs, the volumes and types of substances sent to the site by each PRP, and the volumes of all substances present at the site. To the extent such information is available, it must be released with the special notice letter. A waste-in list gives the volume and nature of substances contributed by each PRP identified at a facility. A volumetric ranking is a ranking by volume of the hazardous substances at a facility.
