Guidance: Using CERCLA Section 106 to Address Cross Media ISE Situations

Memorandum discusses the Agency's use of section 106 of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, commonly referred to as Superfund) to address imminent and substantial endangerments (ISE) that may also be addressed by other environmental statutes, also known as cross-media situations. The memorandum discusses the factors and considerations that should be analyzed when determining whether to use section 106 in cross-media situations. Issued 1/18/2001.
