Premium Standard Farms (PSF) and Continental Grain Company, Inc. Multimedia Settlement

On November 19, 2001, the U.S. EPA and the Justice Department announced a civil settlement with the nation's second largest pork producer, Premium Standard Farms (PSF) and Continental Grain Company, Inc. (Continental). The settlement with the United States and the Citizen's Legal Environmental Action Network (CLEAN) resolves alleged violations of the Clean Water Act , the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act, The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, and the Clean Air Act that occurred at a number of the companies' factory farms in northwest Missouri.

PSF and Continental are to test wastewater treatment technologies, install wastewater treatment technologies, test lagoons for leakage, monitor air emissions, and pay penalties under the civil settlement.
