Abstract: 

A series of reports were prepared under a grant awarded to the University of Chicago for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency focusing on estimating the human health benefits of  pollution control.

Volume I: Executive Summary. This report to EPA from the University of Chicago summarizes a multi-volume study in which they undertook an assessment and reconciliation of attempts to value reductions in human health risks, and the development of new methods and estimates for these values. Volume II. Comparative Analysis of Approaches to Valuing Health Risks . This report contains a comparative assessment of work on valuing health risks. Based on this assessment, a set of interim morbidity and mortality values applicable to effects of criteria air pollutants is developed. (Authors: Tolley, George S., Babcock, Lyndon)

Volume III.  Contingent Valuation Study of Light Symptoms and Angina.  This report includes a study developing and applying contingent valuation techniques to the types of light symptoms often attributed to air pollution. (Authors: Tolley, George S., Babcock, Lyndon)

Volume IV.  Concepts & Approaches to the Valuation of Serious Illnesses.  This volume reports on the design of approaches for valuing serious or life threatening illnesses. (Authors: Tolley, George S., Babcock, Lyndon)

Volume V.  A Set of Morbidity and Mortality Values for Environmental Assessment.  This report provides a review and comparison of morbidity and mortality values by many different researchers to assist in conducting environmental benefit assessments. (Author: George S. Tolley)
