Fuels Registration, Reporting, and Compliance Help

Can EPA give some direction regarding, or an example of, an acceptable pump label?

While it is possible for labels to look somewhat different in regards to color scheme, maximum font size, etc., all labels must meet the following requirements (unless otherwise approved by EPA) specified in §§ 80.570-80.574:

  • text must be bold, block letters with a minimum font size of 24-point
  • the font color and background color must contrast
  • use the exact language stated in quotes

Sample labels are available on the Clean Diesel Fuel Alliance (an alliance of government, industry, and environmental groups aimed at advancing education on the diesel programs) website at www.clean-diesel.org. Please note that these sample labels do have different font sizes than what is listed in the regulations, but they have been approved by EPA as acceptable alternate labels.
