GMD Five-Year Reviews
PURPOSE
A Five-Year Review is conducted to determine the effectiveness of a site remedy or system of remedies- are they functioning as designed? Are they protecting human health and the environment? Are they diminishing or managing the contamination? FYR reports document FYR methods, findings and conclusions. In addition, FYR reports identify issues found during the review, if any, and document recommendations to address them.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency prepares FYRs pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) Section 121 and the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP).
