What You Can Do to Reduce Pollution from Vehicles and Engines

EPA’s Waste Reduction Model. EPA created the Waste Reduction Model (WARM) to help users analyze the environmental impacts of several different waste management practices. WARM calculates and totals emissions of baseline and alternative waste management practices—source reduction, recycling, anaerobic digestion, combustion, composting and landfilling. This model will soon be expanded to capture the economic values of different waste management strategies.

Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator. Did you ever wonder what reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 1 million metric tons means in everyday terms? The greenhouse gas equivalencies calculator can help you understand just that, translating abstract measurements into concrete terms you can understand, such as "equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of 183,000 cars annually."

Household Carbon Footprint Calculator -You can use this online calculator to get a rough “ballpark” estimate of your personal or family’s greenhouse gas emissions (includes a section called "On the Road") and explore the impact of taking various actions to reduce your emissions.

Sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The largest sources of transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions include passenger cars and light-duty trucks, including sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and minivans. There are a variety of opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with transportation.

Boston Red Sox: are committed to maintain initiatives, launched during the 2008 season, that reflect the team's commitment to exploring the use of environmentally sustainable habits and technologies.

Cleveland Indians: Since 1994, the home of the Cleveland Indians,Progressive Field has been recycling plastic, cardboard, and aluminum.

Miami Marlins: Marlins Park received 40 points toward LEED Certification, thus becoming the most sustainable stadium in Major League Baseball.

Pittsburgh Pirates: "Let's Go Bucs. Let's Go Green" program integrates greening initiatives, sustainable business practices and educational outreach. The initiatives that are being put in place at PNC Park will have an immediate positive impact and not only make sense for the environment, but business sense as well.

St. Louis Cardinals: The Cardinals began the "4 A Greener Game Program" at Busch Stadium during the 2008 season as a two month pilot program. After tremendous success, the program now averages over 25 volunteers per game with numbers increasing year after year.

Seattle Mariners Sustainability: Since 2006, the Mariners have been leaders in sustainable ballpark operations.

Washington Nationals: Nationals Park is the nation's first major professional stadium to become LEED Silver Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. The project incorporates a variety of sustainable design elements.

2014 NHL Sustainability Report: The purpose of the 2014 NHL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT is to address recent efforts and the challenges the NHL faces from an environmental perspective. For a number of years now, the League and Clubs have been working together toward the common goal of greater sustainability.

NHL Green launches Hat Tricks for Trees NHL Green announced the launch of Hat Tricks for Trees, an initiative assisting The Nature Conservancy’s effort to save Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. The National Hockey League Foundation, through NHL Green’s Hat Tricks for Trees, will donate 50 trees for every hat trick scored throughout the 2012-13 regular season and NHL Playoffs.
