Greening EPA

Green Buildings at EPA

EPA strives to design, construct and operate its buildings to save energy, water and other resources and reduce waste and emissions. As an agency with some older, less efficient buildings, the challenge is to maintain a safe, healthy and sustainable work environment. EPA promotes the following green building principles in all of its facilities, whether new construction, renovations or existing buildings:

  • Thorough site analysis prior to selection and development
  • Energy efficiency and renewable energy
  • Water conservation
  • Responsible stormwater management and landscaping
  • Material reduction, recycling, composting and environmentally preferable building materials
  • Improved indoor environmental quality
