Over the years, we’ve updated our vehicle testing process so MPG ratings better reflect real-world driving. Our newest label now includes ratings for greenhouse gas and smog emissions.

Label History

  • The fuel economy label was launched in 1974.
  • The fuel economy label has been updated over the years.  Examples shown include 1978, 1986, 1995, 2008, and 2013.

The times have changed – and so has EPA’s Fuel Economy label!
