Reference and Equivalent Method Applications: Guidelines for Applicants (PDF) 2011-09-27 2020-02-28 EPA-ORD-G-2011-01 Federal reference methods (FRM); federal equivalent methods (FEM) These guidelines are intended to assist applicants in preparing and submitting complete and adequate applications for reference or equivalent method determinations for candidate methods. FRM and FEM applications are accepted for methods for monitoring the NAAQS pollutants: SO2, O3, CO, NO2, Pb, and particulate matter (as PM10, PM2.5, or PM10-2.5).
List of Designated Reference and Equivalent Methods (PDF) 2019-12-15 2020-02-28 EPA-ORD-G-2019-01 Federal reference methods (FRM); federal equivalent methods (FEM) These methods for measuring ambient concentrations of specified air pollutants have been designated as "reference methods" or "equivalent methods" in accordance with Title 40, Part 53 of the Code of Federal Regulations (40 CFR Part 53).
Technical Note Regarding the Tisch Environmental TE-PM2.5C Cyclone (PDF) 2017-02-00 2020-02-28 EPA-ORD-G-2017-01 Federal reference methods (FRM); federal equivalent methods (FEM) This technical note provides guidance in the form of questions and answers (Q&A) related to the use of the TE-PM2.5C cyclone as a component in the approved PM2.5 FEM sampler. This technical note also provides guidance to manufacturers (other than Tisch Environmental) who might consider incorporation of the Tisch TE-PM2.5C cyclone into previously designated FRM and FEM samplers, as well as into new PM2.5 sampler and analyzer designs.
Clarifications and Interpretations Concerning the Comparability Tests for Class II and III Candidate Equivalent Methods for PM2.5 and PM10-2.5 (40 CFR 53.35 and related sections) (PDF) 2007-01-18 2020-02-28 EPA-ORD-G-2007-01 Federal reference methods (FRM); federal equivalent methods (FEM) This document provides clarifications and interpretations concerning the comparability tests for Class II and Class III candidate equivalent methods for PM2.5 and PM10-2.5.
Notice of EPA Re-designation of Certain Equivalent Methods for PM2.5 (PDF) 2006-12-18 2020-02-28 EPA-ORD-G-2006-02 Federal reference methods (FRM); federal equivalent methods (FEM) These 7 currently designated equivalent methods are re-designated by EPA as PM2.5 reference methods, based on a change in the PM2.5 reference method specifications.
Notice to Potential Applicants for U.S. EPA Designation of Candidate Class II and III Equivalent Methods for PM2.5 and PM10-2.5 under the 2006 EPA Regulations at 40 CFR Part 53 (PDF) 2006-11-14 2020-02-28 EPA-ORD-G-2006-01 Federal reference methods (FRM); federal equivalent methods (FEM) This document announces that new (2006) regulations applicable to candidate Class II and Class II equivalent methods for PM2.5 and PM10-2.5 are effective and provides guidance to applicants considering candidate method testing.
Guideline on the Meaning and Use of Precision and Accuracy Data Required by 40 CFR Part 58, Appendices A and B (PDF) 1983-06-00 2020-02-28 EPA-600/4-83-023 Ambient air pollution measurement systems This report discusses the concepts and definitions of precision and accuracy as they relate to ambient air pollution measurement systems. This document is intended to help states and local agencies achieve the maximum benefits from ambient air quality surveillance.
Guidance for Evaluating Landfill Gas Emissions from Closed or Abandoned Facilities (PDF) 2005-09-00 2020-02-28 EPA-600/R-05/123a Landfill gas emissions This document provides guidance to Superfund remedial project managers, on-scene coordinators, facility owners, and potentially responsible parties for conducting an air pathway analysis for landfill gas emissions under CERCLA and RCRA. The document provides procedures and a set of tools for evaluation landfill gas emissions to ambient air, subsurface vapor migration due to landfill gas pressure gradients, and subsurface vapor intrusion into buildings.
Guidance for Evaluating Landfill Gas Emissions from Closed or Abandoned Facilities: Appendix C (PDF) 2005-09-00 2020-02-28 EPA-600/R-05/123b Landfill gas emissions This document provides an example quality assurance project plan for the application of "Guidance for Evaluating Landfill Gas Emissions at Closed or Abandoned Sites" (EPA-600/R-05/123a).
Guidance on Setting Permit Conditions and Reporting Trial Burn Results (PDF) 1989-01-00 2020-02-28 EPA/625/6-89/019 Hazardous waste incineration This handbook provides guidance for establishing operational conditions for incinerators. The document provides a means for state and local agencies to achieve a level of consistency in setting permit conditions that will result in establishment of more uniform permit conditions nationwide. It has been developed to assist permit writers in translating trial burn results into site-specific operational conditions in an incinerator permit.
Hazardous Waste Incineration Measurement Guidance (PDF) 1989-06-00 2020-02-28 EPA/625/6-89/021 Hazardous waste incineration This handbook contains general guidance to permit writers in reviewing hazardous waste incineration permit applications and trial burn plans. Guidance is presented on commonly required parameters and methods for process monitoring, sampling and analysis aspects of hazardous waste trial burns, subsequent operation of the incinerator, and quality assurance/quality control associated with these activities.
