In September 2017, the facility's Hazardous Waste Management Permit was modified to incorporate a final remedy detailed in a Statement of Basis dated June 26, 2017, and developed by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) and EPA. The final remedy requires the facility to perform long-term groundwater monitoring, maintain a cover at two Areas of Concern (AOCs) and the maintenance of certain property mechanisms known as Institutional Controls (ICs) and Engineering Controls (ECs). The facility’s final remedy is currently being implemented through an environmental covenant that meets the requirements of the Uniform Environmental Covenant Act. The covenant was recorded at the City of Lynchburg, Circuit Court Clerk’s office with the facility’s land deed on October 25, 2017.
