Cleanup Activities
The facility achieved a "Remedy Construction Complete" determination on September 23, 2009. The storage container area was "clean closed" in accordance with RCRA regulations. Contaminated concrete was cleaned, and certain contaminated soils were excavated from the property and disposed of off site. Other areas of contaminated soils were left in place and environmentally isolated. Contaminated groundwater was treated in situ with a chemical oxidant. Additionally, a land use restriction was recorded.

Facility Description
This facility is a former research and development laboratory associated with the adjacent former Upjohn Company RCRA site (see this page for more information). Analytical services in support of the nearby manufacturing plant's chemical operations were also performed here. These operations resulted in the generation of wastes, such as spent solvents, reactive and ignitable wastes, and unused commercial chemicals. These wastes were formerly managed in a storage container area.

This approximately 13 acre facility is located in an industrial area of North Haven, CT. According to the US Geological Survey's National Hydrography Dataset, this facility is located in the Quinnipiac River watershed and the nearest fresh surface water body is located on or immediately adjacent to the property. Geology in this area has been observed to be dominated by arkose and conglomerate formations.
