Cleanup Activities

This facility achieved a "Remedy Construction Complete" determination on September 30, 2020.The municipal solid waste area was certified closed in 1984, and the metal hydroxide sludge cell was certified closed in accordance with RCRA regulations 1996, with groundwater monitoring wells in place.

Facility Description

This facility is an inactive municipal landfill operating from the 1940s to 1982. From 1977 to 1982, metal hydroxide sludge was disposed of in a dedicated sludge cell.

This approximately 24 acre facility is located in a mainly residential area of Watertown, CT. According to the US Geological Survey's National Hydrography Dataset, this facility is located in the Outlet Naugatuck River watershed and the nearest fresh surface water body is located on or immediately adjacent to the property. Geology in this area has been observed to be dominated by granofels formations.
