Cleanup Activities
The facility achieved a "Remedy Construction Complete" determination on September 24, 2018 and multiple land use restrictions were recorded. The landspreading area was closed in accordance with RCRA regulations. Drainage channels and sumps associated with product finishing were remediated. Contaminated surficial soils were removed from certain areas of the site.

Facility Description
The Irving Tanning Corporation and successors conducted leather manufacturing operations on this property beginning in 1936. Leather finishing operations included the application of primarily solvent-based lacquers, hide dehairing, and tanning. It operated a greater than 90 day hazardous waste storage area and landspreaded hair waste in the fields surrounding the facility.

This approximately 55 acre facility is located in a rural area of Hartland, ME. According to the US Geological Survey's National Hydrography Dataset, this facility is located in the Upper Sebasticook River watershed and the nearest fresh surface water body is located on or immediately adjacent to the property. Geology in this area has been observed to be dominated by sandstone and shale formations.
