Cleanup Activities
The facility achieved a "Remedy Construction Complete" determination on September 30, 2009. A stained chemical storage cabinet and the plastic layer on the shelves in the chemical storage area were properly removed and disposed of off site. A neutralization tank was pH adjusted, flushed and dried. Hazardous wastes, universal wastes, and remaining chemicals were removed from the property when diode manufacturing operations ceased. The waste storage area was decontaminated.

Facility Description
The MicroMetrics facility is a former diode manufacturer that operated from 1975 to 2007, serving both the defense industry and the commercial electronic component market. It maintained a hazardous waste storage area to manage mineral acids, plating baths, and waste organics, such as xylene and perchloroethylene.

This approximately 1 acre facility is located in an industrial area of Rockport, ME. According to the US Geological Survey's National Hydrography Dataset, this facility is located in the Penobscot Bay-Frontal Atlantic Ocean watershed and the nearest fresh surface water body is located on or immediately adjacent to the property. Geology in this area has been observed to be dominated by limestone and dolostone (dolomite) formations.
