Part of the remedy selected for ATS was to cover the contaminated soils to prevent exposure. This involved installing a preventive asphalt cap over the contaminated soils. Construction of the asphalt cap and concrete pads was started in April 2005. Completion of the asphalt cap in August 2005 marks an important milestone in implementation of the final remedy for ATS. The next major task is for ATS to submit the final groundwater remediation system design during the early part of 2006. EPA had contracted with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to look at the existing groundwater remediation system and provide recommendations for improving the capture zone of the extraction system. ATS has submitted an application to the Flatwoods/Canoe Run PSD for review and signature. Flatwoods has tentatively agreed to accept ATS's treated water. The final design for the ATS treatment system should be submitted to EPA in December 2007. Final design has been held up due to lower water quality standards that are required to discharge to the waste water treatment plant. In 2008, ATS decided against using the Flatwood Canoe Run, and came up with increasing the existing evaporator on-site. Actual installation of the re-furbished evaporator was done in early 2010.
A Corrective Action Long Term Stewardship Assessment Report for the site was issued in June 20, 2016.

Located in Sutton, WV, on the south bank of the Elk River, approximately 1,200 feet downstream from Sutton Dam the ATS facility began wood treating operations in 1972. Initially, the company pressure treated wood with creosote. A chromated copper arsenate (CCA) pressurized wood system was later added to production operations at the site. However, creosote pressure treating of wood products (primarily railroad ties and timbers) has always represented more than 90% of company operations. CCA wood treatment operations ceased in July 1993 and all CCA related equipment was removed from the site. Creosote treating operations continue at the facility.
