In accordance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) underground storage tank regulations, two underground heating oil storage tanks were removed from areas outside of the Veolia Environmental Services building. Oil and oily debris were first removed from the tanks and shipped to the authorized facilities. The tanks and piping were excavated, inspected, rendered inoperable, and transported for recycling. Soil samples were collected from the excavations and confirmed that no discharges had occurred. NJDEP issued a no further action determination for the tanks.
An assessment of the facility is planned to evaluate site conditions and identify any other areas of potential environmental concern. An investigation and cleanup of any contamination at the facility would be conducted, if necessary.
Veolia Environmental Services occupies approximately six acres on Eden Lane in Flanders, New Jersey. The facility is located in a light industrial area that is generally surrounded by wooded areas and farms.
