Federal Register Notice: Final Rule Listing as Hazardous Wastes Certain Dioxin Containing Wastes

EPA amended the regulations for hazardous waste management under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), by listing as hazardous wastes certain wastes containing particular chlorinated dioxins, -dibenzofurans, and -phenols, and by specifying a engagement standards for these wastes. These wastes are listed as acute hazardous wastes. Because of this action, we removed several commercial chemical products from the list of hazardous wastes contained in 40 CFR 261.33, since these listings are duplicative. For the same reason, EPA revoked the regulation concerning the disposal of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-pdioxin (TCDD)-contaminated wastes under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) when the regulation under RCRA becomes effective. The effect of this rule is to subject these dioxin containing wastes to the hazardous waste regulations issued under RCRA.
