Proposed Final Remedy
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7, 11201 Renner Boulevard, Lenexa, KS 66219, is providing Public Notice regarding a Proposed Final Remedy for the Former Chamberlain Manufacturing Site, Waterloo, Iowa (EPA ID No. IAD062776422).
EPA is hereby proposing corrective measures (Proposed Final Remedy) for the former Chamberlain Manufacturing Site, located at 550 Esther Street, Waterloo, Iowa. Surface soil removal, vapor intrusion mitigation, monitored natural attenuation of groundwater contamination, and land use controls are proposed for the final remedy at the site. The land use controls will require that subsurface soils disturbed at the former facility property be characterized for potential contaminants prior to handling and removing from the property.

Comments or requests for additional information about this Proposed Remedy Decision should be directed in writing to: Bruce A. Comments should be submitted before the end of the public comment period, which runs from June 10, 2020, through July 10, 2020.
Chamberlain operated as a manufacturing plant for metal washer wringer and projectile metal parts from approximately 1919 until 1996. Interim cleanup actions have been performed at the site, which included the removal of abandoned buildings, soil treatment, and vapor intrusion mitigation.
After consideration of all comments received, EPA will make a final remedy decision. If the decision is made to select a final remedy that is substantially unchanged from the Proposed Final Remedy, EPA will notify all persons submitting comments or requesting a notice of the final decision. If the Proposed Final Remedy is substantially changed, EPA will issue another public notice indicating the changes.
