Public Notice: Lawrence Todtz Farm Superfund Site, Camanche, Clinton County, Iowa

Publish Date: 10/22/2020

Summary

Sixth Five-Year Review Completed

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has completed the Sixth Five-Year Review for the Lawrence Todtz Farm Superfund Site. Five-year reviews are required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) when hazardous substances remain on-site above levels that permit unrestricted use and unlimited exposure. Five-year reviews provide an opportunity to evaluate the site remedy to determine whether it remains protective of human health and the environment.

This Five-Year Review found that the remedy at the site is currently protective in the short-term. The remedy currently protects human health and the environment due to institutional controls that are in place to prevent exposure to groundwater and on-site pond sediments. However, for the remedy to be protective in the long-term, additional groundwater characterization and evaluation are necessary to determine if additional response actions may be warranted. This Five-Year Review Report was signed Sept. 21, 2020.

EPA has assessed the ability of the public to access this Five-Year Review through an internetbased repository and has determined that the local community has this ability. As a result, the Administrative Records are available on EPA's website (see Site Documents & Data).
