Proposed Final Remedies for Cleanup

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 invites the public to comment on the proposed corrective action remedies for eight Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs) and one Installation Restoration Program (IRP) site at the McConnell Air Force Base Facility, located at 2801 South Rock Road, Wichita, Kansas (EPA ID No. KS1571924140).

• Old Base Lake Hardfill Area (SWMU 108/Site ZZ049)
• Debris Pile 1 (SWMU 152/Site ZZ053)
• Debris Pile 2 (SWMU 153/Site ZZ054)
• Debris Pile 3 (SWMU 154/Site ZZ055)
• Former Pesticide Storage Area (SWMU 155/Site OW627)
• Construction Debris Disposal Site (SWMU 178/Site LF059)
• Building 54 Oil-Water Separator #K10 (SWMU 188/Site OW579)
• Former Mercury Manometer site (SWMU 206/Site OT614)
• Building 12 Oil-Water Separator (IRP Site OW971)

The locations of these SWMUs and the IRP site are depicted on facility maps contained in the Administrative Record. The 45-day public comment period runs from June 30, 2020, through Aug. 13, 2020.

The proposed corrective action remedies address on-site soil and groundwater contamination at the facility due to past operations.
