The asbestos demolition and renovation rules (asbestos NESHAPNESHAPNESHAP, or National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants, is a technology-based standard of performance prescribed for hazardous air pollutants from certain stationary source categories under Section 112 of the Clean Air Act.) contains requirements to minimize the risk of asbestos exposure during demolitions and renovations. If the owner/operator of the demolition/renovation follows the asbestos NESHAP, the chances of someone being exposed to asbestos fibers is minimal. State regulations may be more expansive than the federal requirements, which is why we recommend you contact your state's program.
