EPA provided guidance for making the lead designations process in the preamble for the lead National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) final rulemaking (73 FR 6694; November 12, 2008). On August 21, 2009, EPA provided additional information on the timeline for designating areas and identified where key designation – related subjects can be found in the lead NAAQS preamble.
