Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP)

Webinar: Renewable Natural Gas from Landfill Gas and Sustainability at L’Oréal

Renewable Natural Gas from LFG and Sustainability at L’Oréal imageOn December 12, 2018, LMOP hosted a webinar about projects that produce renewable natural gas (RNG) from landfill gas (LFG).

In 2018, L’Oréal USA, an LMOP Energy Partner, entered an agreement to purchase RNG to be produced in a new processing facility at a large Kentucky landfill. This project is part of the company’s plan to achieve carbon neutrality in 2019 for all 19 of its U.S. manufacturing and distribution facilities.

The two speakers’ presentations were followed by a question and answer session:

  • Kirsten Cappel – Program Manager, U.S. EPA LMOP. LMOP provides technical assistance related to LFG energy projects and creates alliances with states, utilities, landfill owners/operators, communities and other stakeholders. Ms. Cappel shared information about the current status of LFG-to-RNG projects in the United States as well as LMOP tools and resources.
  • Jay Harf – Vice President of Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability, L’Oréal USA. Mr. Harf’s responsibilities include the leadership, accountability and strategic direction of all safety, health, environmental and sustainability systems and performance for the L’Oréal Americas group. He presented information about L’Oréal’s purchase of RNG and this project’s role in achieving L’Oréal’s corporate sustainability goals.
