Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico Hypoxia Task Force

Reports on Point Source Progress in Hypoxia Task Force States

These reports document the efforts of the 12 Hypoxia Task Force states to reduce point source nutrient loads to the Mississippi/Atchafalaya River Basin (MARB).

The March 2016 report was the Task Force’s first report on point source contributions of nutrients to the Gulf of Mexico.  It documented the extent of nitrogen and phosphorus monitoring and discharge limits for major sewage treatment plants within the 12 Hypoxia Task Force states.

The October 2019 report shows the increases in both monitoring requirements and discharge limits in permits for nutrients since the 2016 report. This report also includes a newly completed analysis that summarizes nitrogen and phosphorus loads from all major sewage treatment plants in the 12 Hypoxia Task Force states discharging to the MARB.

The HTF will continue to release periodic reports on progress made in reducing point source contributions to nutrient loads to the MARB.
