Videos About Methane Emissions in the Oil and Gas Industry

In an effort to promote technologies for remote sensing leak detection, this video was developed to highlight various leak detection technologies, including hand-held passive infrared cameras; infrared laser detectors; and aerial sensing-leak mapping systems. These technologies detect methane leaks that are invisible to the human eye and are powerful tools in identifying and reducing methane emissions.*

*NOTICE: EPA makes no expressed or implied warranties as to the performance of any technology and does not certify that a technology will always operate as advertised. The end user is solely responsible for complying with any and all applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Mention of names of commercial products and services does not imply endorsement.

Infrared (IR) Methane Videos

These videos were taken at various Natural Gas STAR Partner facilities using Infrared (IR) cameras to show leaking and fugitive emissions from various pieces of equipment. The videos highlight the importance of using an IR camera for leak detection because gas leaks are often invisible to the naked eye. The videos show “before and after” footage of a leak using a regular camera, followed by the same footage using an IR camera.
