National Estuary Program (NEP)

State of the Bay Report for Maryland Coastal Bays

As a National Estuary Program (NEP), Maryland Coastal Bays Program (MCBP) is one of only 28 such programs. Since 1996, the MCBP has worked to weave economic and environmental prosperity into one. MCBP is a public-private partnership designed to build consensus on corrective actions to restore and protect the local natural resources. The MCBP watershed includes more than 189,000 acres of land, 71,000 acres of water, 248 miles of shoreline, and nearly 35,000 acres of wetlands.
