U.S. EPA Honors 2019 ENERGY STAR® Partners of the Year in North Carolina

ATLANTA (April 9, 2019) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 Office and the U.S. Department of Energy are honoring six ENERGY STAR partners in North Carolina for their outstanding contributions to public health and the environment. These enterprises have earned ENERGY STAR Awards for demonstrating national leadership in cost-saving energy efficient solutions. They are among the 183 ENERGY STAR Award Winners nationwide that will be honored in Washington, D.C., on April 11.

“I applaud the 2019 ENERGY STAR Award Winners,” said EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation Bill Wehrum. “Their innovation and leadership enhance America’s economic competitiveness. Reducing costly energy waste improves air quality and public health while protecting the environment.”

“I congratulate our ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year for their leadership and commitment to taking action that will help us leave a healthier planet for future generations,” said EPA Acting Region 4 Administrator Mary S. Walker. “Additionally, their efforts demonstrate that energy efficiency is a smart business decision that supports their bottom line, and helps their customers save money and energy.”

For more than 25 years, EPA’s ENERGY STAR program has been America’s resource for saving energy and protecting the environment. Since 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners helped save American families and businesses nearly 4 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity and associated reductions of over 3 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases. In 2017 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners helped Americans save $30 billion in energy costs.

2019 ENERGY STAR Award Winners in North Carolina include:

Atrium Health (Charlotte)           Atrium Health, a not-for-profit healthcare system that provides a full spectrum of healthcare and wellness programs throughout North and South Carolina, has shown their commitment to improving public health through better energy management, and has reduced energy consumption more than 20 percent since partnering with ENERGY STAR.

Food Lion, LLC (Salisbury)        With more than 1,000 stores nationwide, serving 10 million customers a week, Food Lion, LLC is clear industry leader with a  long-standing commitment to improving energy efficiency across its portfolio. Since partnering with ENERGY STAR it has reduced energy consumption nearly 28 percent.

Hanesbrands Inc. (Winton-Salem)          HanesBrands is a marketer of everyday basic apparel with 68,000 employees manufacturing and distributing its brands, including:  Hanes, Champion, DIM, Maidenform, Bali, Playtex and Bonds. The company's global energy management program continues to grow and extend its influence worldwide by encouraging people to act sustainably.

Lowe’s Companies Inc. (Mooresville)                 Home improvement retailer, Lowe's Companies, Inc., has demonstrated excellence in promoting ENERGY STAR certified products broadly, including participation in numerous ENERGY STAR product promotions, and in consumer outreach, through marketing, advertising and media outreach generating more than 1.3 billion impressions.

Nationwide Marketing Group (Winton-Salem)     Retail buying company, Nationwide Marketing Group, has demonstrated ongoing commitment to protecting the environment by developing best-in-class marketing materials for its member store use that prominently feature ENERGY STAR, leading to thousands of new stores stocking and selling ENERGY STAR certified products.

Southern Energy Management (Raleigh)             Southern Energy Management, a home energy rating company, certified more than 1,300 homes in 2018, for a cumulative total exceeding 20,000 homes since 2006.
