Homeowner Selection of Sampling Contractor
What you need to know:
Homeowners within the Vapor Mitigation Area of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey now have the option of choosing their own contractor to conduct soil gas and air sampling, at no cost to them. EPA and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) are doing this because while some residents have expressed an interest in having this vapor intrusion sampling conducted, they would prefer to choose their own contractor. While the information from the sampling is not needed to determine whether a vapor mitigation system is needed, EPA and NJDEP are hopeful that providing this choice will result in all potentially affected residents installing a vapor mitigation system.
The option of choosing a sampling contractor is available to residents in the Vapor Mitigation Area that do not yet have a vapor mitigation system installed (and are not yet in the planning stage) or have not had a sub-slab sample taken by DuPont or NJDEP. EPA and NJDEP also require that, if residents exercise this option, that they use a New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) with adequate experience and expertise to conduct vapor intrusion sampling. EPA and NJDEP have established a process and guidelines for those choosing to hire a New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professional to conduct vapor intrusion sampling.
