4. Facility Type and Size

Merchant Pig Iron Production Facility that will convert iron ore pellets to merchant pig iron, with a projected production of 526,739 tons per year.

5. Sources of Emissions

The facility consists of with a 218.9 MMBtu/hr Process Gas Preheater, 15.17 MMBtu/hr startup boiler, 15.00 MMBtu/hr natural gas fired Ladle preheater vented to an EAF baghouse, 15.00 MMBtu/hr natural gas fired Ladle dryer vented to an EAF baghouse, 15.00 MMBtu/hr natural gas Ladle drying station vented to an EAF baghouse, Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) including smelting, tapping, pouring and casting, Raw materials handling including screening and transfer via conveyor system, roadways, two 3131 HP emergency diesel engines, a 150 HP black start diesel engine, and quenching and wastewater treatment controlled with a flare.

Natural gas is used to fire the startup boiler, Ladle preheater, dryer, and drying station; process gas and natural gas is used to fire the process gas preheater; diesel is used for the emergency engines and black start engine, process gas and natural gas is used to fire the quenching operation.

8. Emission Control Technology

The process gas preheater is controlled with a catalytic thermal oxidizer and wet scrubber, EAF is controlled by the EAF and Casting baghouse; the ladle preheater, ladle preheat backup and ladle drying station are also controlled by the EAF and Casting baghouse;  and the material handling screen building is controlled a baghouse, the quenching and wastewater treatment is controlled by a flare, roadways are controlled by watering for dust control, the cooling tower has a high efficiency drift eliminator.      

9. Date Permit Application Received

The permit application associated with this permit was received on 12/12/2019.  Note this permit will replace the permit issued on 2/06/2019 due to project design changes, the associated permit application was received on 9/10/2018, with an application modification received on 11/13/2018.
