Mobile Application for Pesticide Label Matching

As part of EPA's Pesticide Data Availability and Label Matching Project, we are working on a pesticide label matching application that will modernize and streamline the current process for inspecting and reviewing pesticide labels for potential violations.

With the Pesticide Label Matcher (PLM) application, federal and state officials can enter the EPA registration number on a mobile device and use the application to compare the label with the accepted federal master label and standardized data contained in EPA's Pesticide Product Label System (PPLS). This application will dramatically improve inspectors’ efficiency, allowing for a larger universe of labels in commerce and in users' hands to be inspected, thereby improving compliance rates over time.

Beta Testing for Pesticide Label Matching Mobile Application Release 1.2

The PLM application was open for beta testing through May 31, 2017. After beta testing is complete, the PLM application will be released on the Apple App store for iOS devices and the Google Play store for Android devices. It will also include a web-based component for access via supported browsers on other devices such as laptops and desktops.

Information for Beta Testers

How do I get access to the application?

To download the application on your mobile device or tablet, search for “EPA PLM” in your device's application store. Once installed, users will be able to open the application immediately.

Approved beta testers will be given the user name and password information to access the application for use.

How do I provide feedback?

Once logged into the application on any platform, a feedback button can be found on the bottom of the pages inside of the application. This button will send an email from your device to the PLM feedback email address located at the end of the document.

When sending feedback, be as detailed as possible and attach any images to the email. Also, provide device/firmware and any other information that will help us troubleshoot problems or improve the user’s experience.

What is new in release 1.2?

Release 1.2 allows users to send an email report on inspected products to themselves and validate visual inspection. The application’s optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities will only be used for technology evaluation purposes. During beta testing of release 1.1, OCR did not yield consistent useable results due to lack of standardization of format of labels and the curved surfaces of many containers.
