FIFRA SAP Meeting on “Evaluation of a Proposed Approach to Refine the Inhalation Risk Assessment for Point of Contact Toxicity: A Case Study Using a New Approach Methodology (NAM).” Request for Nominations and Notice of Public Meeting

EPA is seeking nominations for expert ad hoc members of the FIFRA Scientific Advisory Panel to evaluate a proposed approach to refine an inhalation risk assessment for point of contact toxicity. Panel members will review a case study using the pesticide chlorothalonil to evaluate a new approach methodology (NAM). 

The panel will meet on December 4-7, 2018.

On August 8, 2018, the Agency published a Federal Register Notice announcing an opportunity: 

  1. to provide nominations of experts to serve as ad hoc members of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act Scientific Advisory Panel (FIFRA SAP) meeting, and
  2. to review and comment on the derivation of a point of departure from an in vitro assay and the integration of the in vitro point of departure for calculation of human equivalent concentrations for inhalation risk assessment. EPA’s background paper, charge/questions to FIFRA SAP, and related supporting materials will be available by early September 2018 in docket ID number EPA-HQ-OPP-2018-0517 at https://www.regulations.gov and on the FIFRA SAP website.

Nominations will be accepted until September 7, 2018. Nominations can be provided by following the instructions in the Federal Register announcement (EPA-HQ-OPP-2018-0517) or by forwarding the nomination to the Designated Federal Official listed below.

Nominees should be scientists with expertise and sufficient professional qualifications, including training and experience, to provide expert comments on the following issues: development and implementation of new approach methodologies (NAMs); inhalation alternative testing; inhalation toxicology; inhalation exposure assessment; inhalation/computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling; and human health risk assessment.

The FIFRA SAP serves as a primary scientific peer review mechanism of EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention and is structured to provide scientific advice, information, and recommendations to the EPA Administrator on pesticides and pesticide-related issues as to the impact of regulatory actions on health and the environment.
