Red Hill

Environmental Investigation and Remediation at Red Hill

Investigating and remediating contamination from the Tank #5 fuel release presents challenges due to the complex geology in the Red Hill area. The Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) requires the Navy to evaluate investigation and remediation techniques, refine the understanding of how groundwater and contaminants flow in the subsurface, and monitor existing contamination in order to determine its extent and movement.

Since the signing of the AOC on September 29, 2015, the parties to the AOC have had numerous discussions among themselves and with external subject matter experts (Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources and U.S. Geological Survey) regarding the implementation of Sections 6 and 7 of the AOC SOW. The links below provide information on the progress being made to implement this work.
