Advance Notice of Proposed Rule: Control of Air Pollution from New Motor Vehicles: Heavy-Duty Engine Standards

On this page:

Rule Summary

On January 6, 2020, the Administrator signed an Advance Notice of Proposed Rule (ANPR) soliciting pre-proposal comments on a rulemaking effort known as the Cleaner Trucks Initiative (CTI).

This ANPR describes EPA’s plans for a new rulemaking that would establish new emission standards for oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and other pollutants for highway heavy-duty engines. It also describes opportunities to streamline and improve certification procedures to reduce costs for engine manufacturers.

EPA is seeking input on this effort from the public, including all interested stakeholders.

For information about the CTI, including pre-ANPR outreach, consultation and coordination, visit the Cleaner Trucks Initiative web page.

The docket for this ANPR is available at regulations.gov Docket ID #EPA-HQ-OAR-2019-0055.
