This issue paper provides an overview of the considerations for energy conservation and production during the design and operation and maintenance phases of waste cleanup projects. The paper presents four case studies highlighting energy conservation or production and introduces an “energy checklist” as a suggested tool to help project managers consider energy conservation or production at their sites.
