Join us for the 12th Annual P3 National Sustainable Design Expo!

The U.S. EPA's National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) is sponsoring the 12th Annual National Sustainable Design Expo (NSDE) featuring EPA’s People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Program. The expo will be held at the USA Science and Engineering Festival (USASEF) and feature over 35 university and college teams from across the country participating in EPA’s P3 student-design competition. These P3 teams are currently competing for Phase II grants of up to $75,000 with designs and sustainability solutions to environmental issues.

P3 stands for people, prosperity and the planet. For the annual P3 expo event, teams of university and college students consider all three as they design tangible, cutting-edge solutions to real-world problems. They create; they innovate; they strive to make a difference. P3 aims to engage and educate the next generation of scientists about sustainability, spark innovative and sustainability technologies and support the use of sustainability technologies around the world. With an original grant of $15,000, the student teams develop their designs throughout the school year. In April, the P3 teams have an opportunity to showcase their projects in the NSDE at the USASEF.

EPA’s P3 competition highlights the use of scientific principles in creating innovative projects focused on sustainability. The P3 Award program was developed to foster progress toward sustainability by achieving the mutual goals of improved quality of life, economic prosperity and protection of the planet: the three pillars of sustainability. EPA offers the P3 competition in order to respond to the technical needs of the world while moving towards the goal of sustainability.
