EPA Research to Support States

Environmental Sampling and Analytical Methods (ESAM) Webinar Archive

On June 20, 2018, this webinar highlighted EPA’s Environmental Sampling and Analytical Methods (ESAM), a website tool that supports the entire environmental characterization process from collection of samples all the way to their analyses. ESAM provides the single best available sample collection and analysis method for chemical, biological, radiochemical, and biotoxin contaminants. When this method is used, those making decisions based on the data can feel confident about the integrity of the data, and can more easily interpret what it means and communicate it to the public. Collectively, ESAM’s tools helps local, state and federal emergency response personnel and laboratories more efficiently respond to incidents, enabling smooth transitions of samples and data from the field to the laboratory to public health decision makers.

This webinar highlighted the functionality of ESAM’s tools and included case studies/real world examples such as the recent ricin incident response in Colorado.
