These Safer Choice Criteria were developed to identify safer chelating and sequestering agents, which have preferred human and environmental health profiles. Safer Choice developed the Criteria with a group of stakeholders that included chelating agent manufacturers, cleaning product formulators, environmental non-governmental organizations, certification groups, industry associations, and others. Chelating and sequestering agents that pass these Criteria can be included in cleaning products eligible for recognition under the Safer Choice program.
