12th Conference on Air Quality Modeling

On August 13, 2019, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Twelfth Conference on Air Quality Modeling.  The modeling conference, mandated by Section 320 of the Clean Air Act, was held on the EPA RTP, NC Campus from October 2nd through 3rd, 2019.  The purposes of the Twelfth Modeling Conference was to provide an overview of the latest features of the currently preferred air quality models and to provide a forum for public review and comment on potential revisions to the way the EPA determines and applies the appropriate air quality models in the future.

The following topics were presented:

I.   Conference overview;
II.  Currently preferred air quality models status and updates;
III. Expert panel discussions and invited presentations on model/technique enhancements:
          - Treatment of low wind conditions
          - Overwater modeling
          - Mobile source modeling
          - Building downwash
          - Prognostic meteorological data
          - Near-field and long-range model evaluation criteria
          - NO2 modeling techniques
          - Plume rise
          - Deposition
          - Single source O3 and PM2.5 modeling techniques;
IV.  Model Clearinghouse and modeling guidance updates; and
V. Other presentations by the public.
