Transcript: Indoor airPLUS Verifier Profiles – Rob Salcido Salcido: The company is Architectural Energy Corporation. Our focus here is we are a software provider for the home energy raters. We are also a sustainable design company, so on the commercial side we help builders and architects, kind of, optimize their building. Text on Screen: Does indoor air quality fit into the green building movement? Salcido: Everyone says okay our products are “green,” and there is no real foundation of what is “green.” I’ll say from a sustainability standpoint, yes, looking at an example of LEED where you talk about materials, recycle, reuse, you look at land development, energy, air quality, water quality, water resources; it definitely fits into a subset of that, and you know adds to the sustainability of that home. Text on Screen: Is it worth the investment to build green? Salcido: “Green” sustainability will increase the cost of the home. It will increase the worth of the home as well, to a greater degree; that’s the idea. Yeah, you get what you pay for. If you look at it in the short term, yes, it is going to cost more upfront. But in the long term, over the life cycle of the home, I think you would absolutely save money. Text on Screen: Have you seen a rise in builders incorporating Indoor airPLUS into homes? Salcido: I know that in our area there are quite a few, and it’s noticeable. How quiet it is, how comfortable it is, how clean it is, easy to breath. You can’t see the energy savings going into the home, but it’s different. I’m looking forward to seeing what is going on. Text on Screen: How do you recommend a verifier get involved in Indoor airPLUS? Salcido: At first it’s learn more about it. You know you can’t, in my mind; you can’t sell something unless you believe in it yourself. So learn more about it; what is it. Find out the details. Time and time again, it’s been proven that people are going after durability; they are going after better homes. They want to be in the homes awhile. They’re not going to buy it, sell it in five-to-seven years, and turn it around. So I think “green” and sustainability is coming. You can’t avoid it. So, I think those who don’t accept are going to be left behind.
