OPP funded the initial development of the EXPRESS software, and develops and maintains approved regulatory crop-specific modeling scenarios. ORD conducted quality assurance studies, revised the software accordingly, and, at the request of EFED, has accepted responsibility for continuing development, maintenance, and public availability of the software and its constituent models and analytical modules. EXPRESS has been designed to increase the speed and consistency of pesticide exposure modeling by permitting simulation of an unlimited number of crops and both OPP's ecological pond and drinking water reservoir "scenarios" in a single computer run. Prior to the development of EXPRESS, PRZM/EXAMS simulations could only be performed for a single crop and single water body at a time; changing a single input required repeating all simulations. EXPRESS also facilitates reporting and archiving of results by producing tabular and graphical summaries of both water column and sediment concentration values for all simulated crops, both collectively and separately. It also produces tabular and graphical summaries of the water balance for each crop. For archiving purposes it produces one single ("master project") file from which the entire run for all crops can be reproduced. This file can be E-mailed to other users, and the final result can be saved to provide a permanent record of all simulations that were performed in support of a pesticide registration. EXPRESS also permits simulation of pesticide degradates and includes multiple options to simulate spray drift entry into the water body. Users should be aware that EXPRESS, and its constituent models, are not yet (2006-09-30) approved by OPP for direct use in regulatory modeling; this process is expected to require significant additional deliberations. _____________________________________________________________________________ DOCUMENTATION Users should obtain and refer to the documents listed below to operate and apply the EXAMS model system.
