Training about Water Quality Standards and Criteria

EPA has developed a set of educational tools for students and entry level professionals to learn more about water quality standards development.

EPA’s Water Quality Standards Academy
To support water quality standards development, we offer the Water Quality Standards Academy (WQSA), which presents classroom-based and online courses, along with occasional satellite broadcasts. EPA offers both online courses and periodic in –person classroom Academy sessions.

EPA’s Training for Authorized Tribal Water Quality Programs
EPA's tribal training website is a consolidated, centralized listing of training courses offered by EPA to help Indian tribes develop and implement water quality programs consistent with the Clean Water Act (CWA).

EPA’s Water Quality Criteria Training
This training module introduces water quality criteria and answers the following questions:

  • What is the purpose of water quality criteria?
  • What is the basis?
  • How are the criteria expressed?
  • What are the different types of criteria?
  • What do the criteria protect and how?
