Title Environmental Justice Small Grant Program, Catalogue of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) Number 66.604
Purpose The purpose of this grant program is to support communities dealing with environmental justice concerns through projects designed to empower and educate these communities to better understand environmental and public health issues and to identify ways to address these issues at the local level. The long-term goals of the program are to help build the capacity of the affected community and create self-sustaining, community-based partnerships that will continue to improve local environments in the future.
Type of Assistance Grant
Eligible Applicants Nonprofit Organizations (excluding entities with lobbying activities) and Tribal government/organizations.
Eligible Activities Projects should propose activities designed to empower and educate affected communities to understand environmental and public health issues and to identify ways to address these issues at the local level. Projects should also include strategies for building consensus, setting community priorities and should demonstrate collaboration with other stakeholders (e.g., other community-based organizations, environmental groups, businesses, industry, federal, tribal, state and local governments, and academic institutions) in an effort to realize project goals and objectives, and build project sustainability leading to on-going efforts that address the local environmental justice issue(s).
Excluded Activities/Other Restrictions An eligible applicant must be able to demonstrate that it has worked directly with the affected community. Applicants must be located within the same state, territory, commonwealth, or tribe in which the proposed project is located.
