Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Indian Health Service to Improve Open Dump Data, Solid Waste Projects and Programs in Indian Country

January 16, 2017 - This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Indian Health Service (IHS) is related to open dumps in Indian country. The MOU commits IHS to improve the accuracy and completeness of data characterizing open dumps, and EPA to continue to conduct regular assessments, evaluations and reporting on tribal solid waste programs, including their effectiveness in reducing open dumping activities. IHS will utilize the improved open dumps data and the EPA tribal solid waste program assessments to develop, prioritize and fund projects to close open dumps.
