Title Rural Utilities Service Solid Waste Management Grants, Catalogue of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) Number 10.762
Purpose This competitive grant program assists communities through free technical assistance and/or training provided by the grant recipients. Qualified organizations will receive Solid Waste Management grant funds to reduce or eliminate pollution of water resources in rural areas, and improve planning and management of solid waste sites in rural areas.

Eligible Applicants Educational Institutions, University, Indian Tribal Governments, Local Governments, private nonprofit organizations, State/Territorial Agencies
Eligible Activities Eligible areas are rural areas and towns with a population of 10,000 or less, with special consideration given to areas with fewer than 5,500 people or fewer than 2,500 people, regional, multi-state or national areas, and lower-income populations. Funding can support activities at landfills, including assessments of threats to water resources and technical assistance for operation and maintenance, reduction of solid waste stream and landfill closure activities.
Excluded Activities/Other Restrictions Grant funds may not be used to recruit applications for any loan and/or grant program, duplicate current services, replace or substitute support previously provided, fund political activities, pay for capital assets, real estate or vehicles, improve and renovate office space, or pay for construction or operation and maintenance costs for water and waste facilities.

Proposal Elements/Scoring Criteria The project proposal should outline the project in sufficient detail to provide the reader with a complete understanding of how the proposed project will work. Explain what your project will accomplish utilizing the grant funds. Demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed project in meeting the objectives of this grant program. Specific proposal elements and evaluation criteria can be found in the annual application guidance.
