Humanim

Humanim focuses on workforce development and social enterprise. Baltimore has approximately 30,000 vacant and abandoned properties. Historically, vacant row homes were demolished, creating significant waste streams and limiting future redevelopment opportunities on affected sites. With technical assistance from the USDA Forest Service Forest Products Lab, Humanim has learned how to deconstruct homes. Under a deconstruction contract with Baltimore City, members of the community are being trained and employed in deconstruction bringing deconstructed materials to new markets and enhancing Baltimore’s sustainability efforts.
